William
J. O'Neil is an experienced financial planner and financial
educator in the Metro Detroit area. Over the
past few years, he has been counseling people on the
direction they should take if and when a buyout package is
presented to them. He has become very familiar with the
buyout packages currently being offered from all the major
Metro Detroit Area Corporations... Mostly those who have
retired, or are considering retiring from Ford,
GM, Chrysler, DTE, or AT&T.
Bill
helps people, everyday, plan their finances properly for
a better future with greater financial security.
However, he does believe that times are completely
different than they were and helps educate people on all the
challenges and issues they will face in this new era of
retirement. He tells his clients that even though
many of the buyout packages are universal in structure, that
your personal financial situation is not universal.
You will need to seek the help of a professional when planning
for retirement and considering a buyout offer.
Simply doing what your co-worker has done will be of little
worth, and maybe extremely detrimental to your financial
future.
Bill has been very fortunate to be able to help many buyout
candidates make their decision, as well learn from each and
every candidate as to what their fears and and concerns may
be in the decision making process.
He has made a checklist for every
buyout employee to consider before making their decision.
It is recommended that you print this page and write down
your answers on a separate piece of paper.
What every buyout candidate needs to ask...
Will
your buyout check be taxable? Or do you have
the option of rolling it over to an IRA and
deferring the taxes?
What would happen to
your current employment position if you decided to
stay? Is there any job security?
Could
you stay at the company? Or does it appear that your
department or plant will be closed down in the near
future?
What is your current
level of education? Will you need to further
educate yourself to find another job or career?
Will there be other positions opening up somewhere
else that will cater to your current skill set or
knowledge base?
What
type of benefits will you have after you accept the
buyout package?
Could
you afford to go back to work for a lesser wage and
benefits? Would you need to go back to work?
How much
do you have saved up in your retirement plan right
now? Will this be enough?
Do you
have additional financial obligations to your family...
such as paying for a child's college education?
Do you
believe you can afford to take the buyout? What type
of investment plan will you have for retiring?
Is there
a business that you always wanted to start?
Are you confident the economy will be able to
support this business?
These are all legitimate questions
you will have to face when making your decision. Bill
understands that these questions are difficult for anyone to
answer since a lot of them have unknown variables that are
tough to predict. But from prior experience, these are
the considerations that our previous buyout candidates have
presented in their meeting with us.
O'Neil Financial is determined to help you feel confident
when deciding what to do when faced with a life changing
event... such as early retirement. We are currently
providing free consultations to anyone who has been offered
a buyout package. We believe it is not only important
to work with someone who is knowledgeable and experienced in
financial planning... but is also knowledgeable in the
various buyout programs currently being offered.
By taking advantage of Bill's free consultation, the only
thing that would be at risk is your time. He will work
with you to survey your answers from the above buyout
checklist, as well as put together a roadmap as to where you
stand financially if you decided to accept the offer.
If you find that working with O'Neil Financial is not of
interest to you at the present time, or if you decide to
"stick-it-out" with your current employer, we can assure you
that this, free, one hour meeting, will still be
beneficial to you.
